Our 8th-grade band at AJHS brought big energy to "Pop Tune Friday" as they geared up for a busy performance season! 🎶✨
Students practiced crowd-pleasing arrangements like "Blinding Lights" by The Weeknd and "Crazy Train" by Ozzy Osbourne for two upcoming events: playing at a Chicago Wolves game in February and performing at Pritchett Elementary's Veterans Day assembly! 🐺🇺🇸
AJHS musicians are thrilled to visit Pritchett, with one student sharing they are excited "to honor our grandparents," and another adding, "We will inspire the kids at Pritchett to want to play an instrument in the future." 🎺❤️

Fourteen student leaders from Stevenson High School’s FIRE Club recently visited AJHS to lead an empowering whole-school assembly! The presentation equipped our middle schoolers with practical, actionable tools to stand up for others and foster an inclusive school culture. 🤝
Students learned the "Speak Up Protocol"—a four-step strategy to Interrupt, Question, Educate, and Echo whenever they witness unkindness or exclusion.
This was a full-circle moment for the high school mentors, too! Eight of the 14 Stevenson students proudly shared that they first joined FIRE after experiencing this same assembly during their own middle school years right here at AJHS. 🎓📣✨

Designing for Function and Style 🚴♂️🎨✨
Our 6th-grade engineering students just wrapped up their first major project: designing and constructing 1:10 scale model bike racks customized to match the branding and aesthetic of a business of their choice! 📐🚲
Students conducted market research, sketched initial ideas, managed budget sheets, and built functional prototypes. The project concluded with an exciting gallery walk where students presented their final models and received constructive feedback from their peers! 🛠️💬

Math is always more fun when it's a team effort! AJHS students paired up for a fast-paced game of "Hexingo" to warm up their math brains and sharpen their skills. 🧠✨
Using their iPads as digital scratch paper, groups collaborated to simplify complex expressions, solve equations, and master the order of operations to mark off spaces on their game boards. This hands-on work lays a strong foundation for their upcoming lessons on combining like terms and the distributive property! 📲📐
