Mrs. Murdach’s fifth graders recently finished their "Rescue Readers" initiative, reading an amazing 248 books to support Orphans of the Storm Animal Shelter. Thanks to a generous partnership with Woodman’s Grocery Store, the students raised a grand total of $1,500!

Beyond the reading, students collected supplies and designed custom adoption folders for new pet owners. Way to go, fifth grade, making a #D102Impact one page at a time! 🐶

Right before winter break, Ms. Campbell’s students were busy looking ahead to 2026. They each shared how they plan to make an impact with the prompt: “In 2026, I will be shining a light by...” 💡

From mastering new skills to finding ways to be more helpful at home, these students have big plans to brighten up the coming year. We can’t wait to see them shine! #EveryDayEveryStudent #D102 #Impact102

The Family Book Club recently gathered to explore "Home is Calling," a nonfiction look at the monarch butterfly's incredible journey to Mexico. Families discussed the challenges facing the Illinois state insect, designed garden plans, and created themed crafts. To support these pollinators, the school community will add butterfly-friendly plants to the Tripp School grounds this spring. 🦋🌱

At the Board of Education meeting on January 26, 25 amazing students from across D102 were celebrated! These rockstars were chosen by their principals and teachers because they were seen living out our district's Portrait of a Graduate traits.

In case you missed it, our D102 goals are all about raising:
Skilled Communicator and Collaborator 🗣️
Effective Problem Solver and Decision Maker 🧠
Ethical and Open-minded Global Citizen💡
Determined and Empowered Individual 🤝

It was such a fun night! Families joined in as Board President Sklansky and Superintendent McIntyre handed out special certificates and cool Portrait of a Graduate zipper pulls. Our families enjoyed a surprise visit from our D102 therapy dogs, too. 🐶

Congrats to all of our honorees!

Books come to life at Meridian! 📚✨

Our families recently dived into the 2026 Bluestem title "Dogtown" by Katherine Applegate & Gennifer Choldenko. After a great discussion and reading an interview with the authors, we welcomed back a very special guest, former Meridian teacher, Cheri Brill! 🍎

Inspired by the book’s animal shelter setting, Mrs. Brill shared the inspiring work done by Orphans of the Storm. To wrap up the night, students and parents put their reading into action by crafting handmade fleece toys to be donated to the shelter pets. 🐾✂️

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this wonderful night of literacy and service!

Due to the forecasted winter weather conditions, all D102 schools and offices will be closed tomorrow, Friday, January 23, 2026.

While our buildings are closed, the learning doesn't stop! 💻 We will be moving to E-Learning for the day.

Parents, please check your email for an official message from Dr. McIntyre with details about the E-Learning day.

Note: All after-school activities and programs are cancelled, including Clubhouse.

Stay safe and warm, D102! We look forward to seeing everyone back in person soon. ⛄️📚

8th graders in health class are stepping up as "first responders" this week! 🚑💪

While this unit isn't about official certification, it’s all about building the confidence to act when it matters most. Students practiced identifying signs of medical distress and knowing exactly who to call. Most importantly, they’re learning how to manage the "freeze" response and ease anxiety during an emergency. Seeing our students develop these life-saving skills is a true reflection of our commitment to preparing them for the real world. 🧠✨

🎨 Tripp Artists in Action! 🌳✨

Our Tripp art students have been busy exploring the magic of color theory through these vibrant watercolor trees! They started with bold black ink for the trunks to create a sharp contrast before diving into their paints. 🖌️

It was great to see them experiment with primary and secondary colors to decide on a "warm" or "cool" vibe for their landscapes. They learned how a simple change in palette can completely shift the mood of their work! 🌈🙌

📚 Spreading the Love of Reading!

Our 3rd Grade Student Council has been hard at work! 🎨 They spent their time creating beautiful, handmade bookmarks for the Tripp Elementary library.

Every single bookmark was made with extra care and creativity. We are so proud of these young leaders for giving back to our school community and adding a little extra joy to our reading time. Next time you’re in the library picking out a new favorite book, be sure to grab one! Way to make a #D102Impact! #EveryDayEveryStudent

🌟 A Musical Welcome 🎼

Memories of the morning before winter break are still ringing in our ears! As students walked through the doors on their final day of the semester, they were greeted by the wonderful sounds of our 7th Grade Orchestra. Performing in front of peers is no small feat, and these students did an incredible job spreading joy through their music. We are so proud of their dedication and talent! 🌟 #D102 #D102Impact #EveryDayEveryStudent

New Year, New View! 🏫✨

We are stepping into 2026 with a lot to be thankful for. Our "Building Our Bright Future" projects at Pritchett, Tripp, and AJHS are providing our students with the safe, modern learning spaces they deserve.

As we enjoy these upgrades throughout 2026, we’re also counting down the months until summer, when construction officially begins at Meridian! 🛠️📅
