Concussions
Students who sustain a forceful impact suspected to have caused a concussion—and who show signs, symptoms, or behaviors consistent with a concussion—will be immediately removed from:
Athletic practices or competitions
Physical education classes
Recess
Other physical activities during the school day
School-sponsored after-school programs
Students either diagnosed with a concussion or exhibiting symptoms following an injury will not participate in these activities until cleared.
The district follows "Return to Learn" and "Return to Play" protocols, guided by a physician’s recommendations and the student’s symptom progression. Each concussion is unique and managed on an individual basis through collaboration between the student, parents/guardians, school nurse or physician, and educational team.
The concussion plan is regularly reviewed and adjusted to support both academic and physical recovery. A student may return to full participation only after receiving medical clearance from the treating licensed physician.
CDC Concussion Information Sheet
Student-athletes and their parents or guardians are required to sign the Agreement to Participate before the student may take part in any practice or interscholastic competition.
