It was an incredible day at AJHS as we welcomed back one of our own! Alumni and current NFL linebacker Maema Njongmeta visited our students to share his inspiring journey from our hallways to the professional turf. ποΈβ¨
Njongmeta took a trip down memory lane, reminiscing about playing the trumpet in Mrs. Rakickasβs class (who is still rocking it as our band teacher today! πΆ). Now a member of the Carolina Panthers πββ¬ (and formerly of the Cincinnati Bengals), he spoke candidly about what it takes to reach the highest level of athletics.
Beyond football, Njongmeta emphasized the power of mental fortitude and community. He left our students with powerful words to live by, like "Speak life into yourself" and "Engage with the people who believe in you." π£οΈβ¨
The visit wrapped up with a Q&A where students got to connect personally with a pro! Thank you, Maema, for providing our students with a roadmap to tackle their goals with confidence! π

Huge round of applause for the 65 incredible students at Pritchett who crushed the 3rd Grade Reading Challenge! From November to March, these dedicated "Super Readers" dove into books from the Illinois Monarch and Bluestem Award lists.
These students didn't just read from a list of books: They even took notes, tackled weekly challenges, and stayed committed to their reading goals for months. We are so proud of the hard work and literary stamina shown by every single participant. You all proved that reading is a superpower! π¦ΈββοΈπ

Tripp's recent family book club meeting was a tail-wagging success! πβ¨ The group read the story of "Madeline Finn and the Therapy Dog," and the D102 Therapy Dog team helped bring the pages to life! ππΆ
Mrs. Fasuna, founder of the D102 Therapy Dog program, shared the inspiring story of how the program began, and Tripp's principal, Mrs. Schenk, introduced us to her dog, Sushi! πΎπ« Together, they walked families through the process of qualifying a dog for therapy work. β πβπ¦Ί
Participating families turned recycled T-shirts into handmade dog toys ππ§Ά, which were all donated to the Heartland Animal Shelter in Wheeling to help pups in search of their forever homes! π β€οΈπΎ

Mrs. Marshallβs 2nd graders turned into real-world problem solvers during their recent Project Lead The Way unit! π‘
Students took the lead, researching and debating strategies to protect a model of our community from a simulated mudslide. Using rocks, piping, and trees, they engineered creative solutions to stabilize the landscape and stop erosion in its tracks.
Way to think critically and work together, D102! π οΈβ¨
