Welcome to Aptakisic-Tripp CCSD 102!
We are a Triple A bond-rated elementary school district whose students perform in the top 10% of Illinois schools and located in the heart of Buffalo Grove. Buffalo Grove is a very vibrant and diverse community with "quiet neighborhoods and green spaces" quoted from the Buffalo Grove Community website. We educate approximately 2,025 students in early childhood through eighth grade. Recently, we were recognized in the Daily Herald as having the highest 8th grade math scores in Lake County.
All District 102 programs include a guaranteed, viable curriculum and formative feedback loops to students. All subjects, including a comprehensive fine arts and foreign language program, incorporate the latest 21st Century tools and new research-based resources. We intervene early and often in reading, math, and social emotional learning through a model called Response to Intervention and have a well recognized Early Childhood, English Language Learner and Transitional Bilingual Program in Russian. As highly qualified staff, we continue to receive "just in time" or personalized training to maximize all of the teaching and learning resources available to us. In our new standards-based report card each subject is explained through reporting standards. These standards broadly identify the “big ideas” within subjects that transcend all grades. Therefore, the district’s curriculum, instruction, assessment and report card are all in alignment.
District 102 parents and the larger community place a premium on quality education and support the district in every way including a strong and supportive PTO, 21st Century Committee, Teaching and Learning Council, and the passage of an education fund referendum in 2002 which has positioned the district well for our students' future.
The Aptakisic-Tripp CCSD 2009 – 2010 DISTRICT GOALS are as follows:
Through a collaborative culture and shared leadership, highly effective teams will utilize data to:
a. Implement a five-day writing program for all learners to develop effective composition mastering appropriate grade level skills in focus, support/elaboration, organization, integration, and voice.
b. Continue to develop strategies to personalize learning for the whole child.
c. Further enhance and expand learner-centered environments incorporating modern information and communication technologies.
The best definition of 21st Century Learning that I have come across is "learning essential content by way of authentic intellectual skills such as critical thinking and problem solving." These skills emphasize the ability to argue, analyze others' arguments, conduct research, and acquire such 'habits of mind' as the ability to invent or synthesize information. Central to this is literacy: the ability to read, write, and make effective presentations. (Berliner & Biddle, 1995; Kay & Houlihan, 2006; Pearlman, 2006)."
As always, please do not hesitate to contact the Superintendent's office if you have any concerns or if there is anything we can help you with.
Sincerely,
Theresa L. Dunkin, Superintendent
