Make A Difference Day!
Dear families, Make A Difference Day is an exciting, all school event, dedicated to community service. Like the past 9 years, the focus will be on an organization called “Little Angels”. This facility supports children and young adults with severe disabilities and complex medical needs, and it is located just east of Elgin. On Saturday, October 24, our community will come together to Make A Difference in the lives of the Little Angels residents as well as setting an example for our children in giving of themselves. Our activities include the making of picture frames, cards and fleece knotted pillows. We will have a used book sale for your child to look through and there will be a bake sale with wonderful things to taste. There will also be a children’s game raffle. In addition, Wa-Pa-Ghetti's Pizza will be at the event to sell to our families, and everything is at a nominal price. All the projects will be brought to The Little Angels Facility and proceeds from the various sales will directly benefit the organization which does not benefit from any state funding. (Read More)
Fourth Grade Integrates iPad Where it Makes Sense
Tripp Co-Principal Mr. Michels and Pritchett Principal Dr. Moreland shared examples of how the fourth grade team is leveraging the iPad to enhance instruction and student learning. "Students read a passage on the iPad, take a picture of words they don't know, and post the words in Padlet," notes Mr. Michels. "Padlet allows the teacher to organize the words on the Interactive Whiteboard for all students to process together." The team has identified apps such as Padlet to support academic goals across the subjects and will also introduce Schoology, a communication tool used in the upper grades.
Elementary School Leaders Share Kindergarten Update
D102 staff truly appreciate the Board of Education's insight and support to roll out full day kindergarten this year. "The teachers value the extra time they have with the kindergarten students," notes Pritchett Assistant Principal Mrs. Schenk and Tripp Co-Principal Mrs. Bhardwaj. The two leaders highlighted the positive impact of full day, as well as the growth these kindergartners have already made during the first five weeks of school. The nine full-day kindergarten teachers, building leaders, and Dr. Brua work collaboratively and continue to make small adjustments to an outstanding first-year program.
Pritchett Celebrates International Peace Day
The International Day of Peace has been observed on September 21 since its inception in 1981. It is a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. This year's theme was "Partnerships for Peace - Dignity for All." It stresses the importance of all segments of society working together to strive for peace. Students in kindergarten through fourth grade created student-made pinwheels representing peace and placed them in the front of Pritchett School.
