PES: Thanks for a Great Open House
Dear Parents, Our Open House was very exciting and officially kicked off our new school year! It was nice to see so many of you, and I appreciated your wonderful comments about the staff here at Pritchett. At Open House you heard about our curriculum. One aspect of the curriculum deals with responsibility. Working together to build responsibility in each student, we have directed night custodians and Clubhouse personnel not to admit children to the classrooms for forgotten items after 3:45. Since teachers guide students when they pack up to go home, your child should be arriving home with all needed materials. Also, be mindful of when school begins. We bring students into the building at 8:50 and start instruction at 9:00. Please make sure your child arrives to school on time. It is unfair to classmates to interrupt or repeat directions due to tardiness. I appreciate your support in the matter. Session One of the After School Program, Prime Time, begins Tuesday, September 15, and runs through Thursday, November 20. This program is for children in grades 1-4. Bus service is provided free of charge only at 4:30 P.M. All children must take a bus or be picked up. Please be sure to pick up your child no later than the ending time of his/her classes. If you have any further questions, please contact Jane Friedman at (847) 353-5700. Our opening ceremonies are complete, and we will begin to dig deep into our learning goals for the year. We will be reporting formally to you in November. Until then, if you have questions or concerns, contact teachers directly. If I may be of help, feel free to call or e–mail me as well. For your children, Matt K. Moreland, Ed.D. Principal

Dental Exam Requirement
All children in kindergarten, 2nd, and 6th Grade are required to have an oral health examination in Illinois. Each child must present proof of examination by a licensed dentist prior to May 15 of the school year. If a child in Grade 2 or Grade 6 fails to present proof by May 15, the school may hold the child’s report card until one of the following occurs:
1. The child presents a Proof of School Dental Examination form.
2. The child presents a Dental Examination Waiver form.
3. The child presents an exemption based on religious grounds.
4. The child presents proof that a dental examination will take place within 60 days after May 1st.
The State of Illinois Dental Examination form is available on the District Health Services webpage and also in your school’s Health Office. Please submit to school the completed form after your child receives his/her dental exam.

Pertussis (Whooping Cough) Facts
Lake County is experiencing an increase in reported cases of whooping cough over the past several months. There also have been more reported cases than normal in our bordering counties of McHenry & Cook.
The IL Department of Public Health reminds us that "early recognition, diagnosis, treatment, reporting, and preventive measures" are essential to control and prevent further transmission. Additionally, "Pertussis poses the greatest risk to infants, who have illness that is more serious and are more likely to have complications and be hospitalized than persons in other age groups." Please read the Pertussis Fact sheet prepared by the Lake County Health Department for more information, http://www.lakecountyil.gov/Health/want/pages/CD.aspx
