Preparing for Parent/Teacher Conferences
We look forward to the upcoming Parent / Teacher Conference held on November 23 and 24. What is the best way to maximize your time with the teacher? Consider following:
Take notes: Before the conference, write down any concerns you have about your child along with questions about the curriculum. Take your notes along as a reminder.
Be on time: Teachers are usually on a tight schedule for conferences. If you are punctual, you will have the maximum time to talk.
Stay calm: If there are problems, focus on ways to work with the teacher on solutions. Children benefit when parents and teachers are on the same page.
Plan the next step: Discuss how you will follow up on issues raised. You could swap e-mail addresses or phone numbers (jot down the best times to talk) or schedule another meeting.
For your children,
Matt K. Moreland, Ed.D.
Pritchett Student Council Holiday Boutique
Pritchett's Student Council will be sponsoring its annual Holiday Boutique. On December 8 and 9 students may purchase gifts for their families at lunchtime. Gifts range in price from 0.50 to $5.00. Money raised will help support student council.
Famous Children's Author Visits Pritchett
New York Times best selling author Todd Parr visited with Pritchett students on November 12. Mr. Parr read a few of his stories and shared his journey of becoming a children's author. His books are written around messages of peace, love, and diversity awareness. Children love his humor and connect with his stories. Mr. Parr's newest book, The Goodbye Book, was released on November 3.
Pritchett Concert Celebrated Awesome Animals
On November 5, the second graders at Pritchett School performed a musical concert called Awesome Animals. The 2:00pm dress rehearsal was for Pritchett School and the 7:00pm concert entertained family members. The children sang songs around the theme of animals and the highlight was Rockin' Robin, a Pritchett School favorite. Thank you to music teacher Mrs. Rosemary Nelson for the fantastic concert and the second grade teachers for all the support with rehearsals.
Social Worker's Scoop
I recently visited some 3rd and 4th grade classrooms to review the message accompanying the book, "Have you Filled a Bucket Today?” by Carol McCloud. We talked about the many different ways we can fill others’ buckets while also filling our own imaginary bucket, and we discussed the importance of paying attention to the way in which our words and actions impact others. I completed each visit by giving the students a challenge: try to fill at least 1 bucket each day for 30 days and keep track of your efforts. Read more.
November Notes from Pritchett's Nurse
We are approaching flu season. CDC recommends a yearly flu vaccine as the first and most important step in protecting against flu viruses. While there are many different flu viruses, the flu vaccine protects against the three viruses that research suggests will be most common. Flu symptoms are: fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills or fatigue. Some people may also have vomiting or diarrhea. People may be infected with the flu,and have respiratory symptoms without fever. Please see the following flu resources for further details: (read more)
Storytelling with “Attitude” Assembly
Pritchett School would like to thank the PTO for arranging Wednesday’s storytelling assembly with Linda Gorham. On October 28, this amazing storyteller inspired the Pritchett students through movement, humor and sometimes zaniness as she told imaginative multicultural folktales updated with “attitude”. The students and staff greatly enjoyed their time with Mrs. Gorham!
