Be careful if you compose your comments in Word (or Pages) and paste into PowerSchool
When you compose your comments in Microsoft Word and then paste them--whether in the Gradebook (5-8) or in PowerTeacher (K-4)-- quotation marks, apostrophes, dashes and other special characters can cause problems.
The easiest way to avoid problems altogether is to compose your comment directly in the Gradebook or the comment box in PowerTeacher. You can then either fill (Gradebook) or copy the result and paste it for your other students.
If you want to use Word or Pages for composing your comments, see the External Links section below for instructions on how to disable "smart quotes" in MS Word or Pages.
Do not use multiple paragraphs
The other common problem comes from separating your comment into multiple paragraphs. Instead, your comment should be a single paragraph.
Here is an example of what NOT to do:
During 2nd quarter, students worked on identifying and playing notes of the D major scale. We worked on bowing technique and tone development as well as basic rhythm skills. Students performed their first concert in December, showcasing their skills and playing together as a large group. Grant is making great progress with the violin.
Good bowing, note reading, and rhythm skills! Keep up the good work!
