We are sad to report that Jacob Waxberg died unexpectedly on July 20 due to a lake accident. Jacob would have been a sophomore at Stevenson High School and will be remembered by many in District 102 where he attended grade school.
Laura Boshart, Pritchett teacher, said that "Jacob was a fun loving jokester. He always had a smile on his face and loved sports. He always had a group of students with him. He loved to ask questions and tell you facts. Jacob's memories will always be in my heart."
Matt Konieczka, Aptakisic Teacher, said “I was fortunate to work with Jacob since he was in 3rd grade. What can I say about Jacob, but I will never forget him. He was an amazing young man. I can't tell you all the good times I had with him. Jacob was a special person. He put a smile on my face. I can't tell you the number of times we laughed about which is a better baseball team (CUBS or sox) He and I had a constant debate over who supported the better team. What I will remember most about him was his ability to make people laugh; his determination to succeed; and his ability to advocate for himself.”
Kathy Faierson, Pritchett teacher, said, "Jacob Waxberg always had a smile on his face, his laughter was contagious, and he brought joy to our 4th grade classroom. Jacob always had a positive energy about him as he looked on the bright side of things. His sense of humor was apparent in all he did. He was liked by all. What a loss. Jacob will be missed.”
Many D102 former students spoke at the service for Jacob on Sunday. Their humorous and respectful stories had tears in everyone's eyes and smiles on their faces.
Jacob left a lasting impression on many staff members. Read more by visiting the RIP Jacob Waxberg Facebook page. His family has asked that all donations go to Lincoln Park Zoo.
