Orchestra students from grades 5 - 8 recently performed at Stevenson High School's Performing Arts Center. The Meridian Beginning Orchestra played three pieces, including French Folk Song, Beethoven's Ninth (Ode to Joy),
and the students' favorite, We Will Rock You. The Meridian Concert Orchestra also played three pieces: Wild Western Frontier, Over the Rainbow (from The Wizard of Oz), and Orpheus in the Underworld (most famously known as "Can-Can").
Aptakisic 7th grade orchestra played "Eleanor Rigby" and "Gauntlet" where students made up a story that was read about a maiden who gets chased through the woods by spiders, is hounded by a wolf, and then saved by her prince charming. The 8th grade orchestra students played "Barber of Seville" and "Nessun Dorma," both very famous opera pieces by Rossini and Puccini respectfully. Band director Tom Eifert prepared the full orchestra piece which included band and orchestra students, like the instrumentation you would hear at a professional concert, played "Dance of the Tumblers." Our sincere appreciation to the students and music directors, including Nicole Vettrain, Stacey Farran, and Tom Eifert, for a wonderful concert.
