Pritchett Elementary School third graders gave a spectacular performance at their winter concert entitled, Songs of America. The concert theme was focused on patriotism, as well as increasing students' understanding of America's historical songs and our country's history.
Students sang songs ranging from The Star Spangled Banner by Francis Scott Key & John Stafford Smith, to an energetic rendition of Ray Charles’ Fifty Nifty United States. In addition to their singing, students played a variety of instruments and synchronized hand and body movements with the music. Students also introduced each song with original speeches describing the historical and personal significance of each song. The introduction of We Will Not Forget by John Riggio included a request for all veterans who served in the U.S. Military to stand and be acknowledged. The students then proceeded to sing this moving piece with honor and respect for all the men and women who have served our country both now, and throughout history.
Following the concert, students submitted written reflections on their preparation and performances of the musical selections, as well as their understanding of patriotism as it related to their study of U.S. History. Special thanks and appreciation are extended to Mrs. Rosemary Nelson, musical director, and the entire third grade team who worked to combine the study of music and history in preparation for this dynamic student performance. They, in turn, acknowledged the work of their students with the following statement printed on the concert program:
THANK YOU, 3rd GRADERS!!!!! Your PATRIOTIC singing is THRILLING!!! Through your love and spirit for our country, America SHINES!!!!!!!
Thank you, all.
