Second grade students from Tripp Elementary recently participated in a hands-on field trip to the Elgin Museum. Digital documentation of this trip enabled the students to express and summarize what they learned and discovered during the presentations, exhibits, and nature walk.
This experience allowed the students to further explore a unit in science, insects and life cycles. Using iPads, students took pictures of different aspects of the trip. The goal was for each student to explain the pictures, make observations, and share what they learned. Once on the bus returning to Tripp School, students began to create a digital slide show on the iPads using an app called Sonic Pic. This app allows students to choose photos from the iPad camera roll, put them in order, and record narration as they advance through photo selections. Back at school these slide shows were exported and shared via a web address, downloaded, and used as reflection of the trip.
