Students, teachers, and staff wore red, white, and blue on September 12 to commemorate 9/11 and acknowledge the 10th anniversary through a district-wide People for Peace theme.

Aptakisic highlighted people throughout history who sought peaceful solutions to very hard situations such as Dr. Martin Luther King, Mother Teresa, Gandhi, and Eleanor Roosevelt. This included a look at Ground Zero and the 9/11 memorial built for Americans to remember those who lost their lives.
Meridian hosted a study peace station each day focusing on questions such as "What does peace look like; how can I build peace; what do I want for our world; and how am I going to make a difference."
Tripp and Pritchett began each morning with an inspirational message centering on peace; participating in classroom activities fostering peace and acceptance; and concluding each school day with a song focusing on patriotism and/or peace.

On September 21, we will promote peace within our district and community in celebration of the International Day of Peace by wearing "peace" themed clothing. One focal point around the world will be the minute of silence at 12:00 noon as requested by Ban Ki-moon, Secretary General of the United Nations.
