Bob Basofin Awards
Each year, two students, one boy and one girl, are selected for the Bob Basofin Awards for commitment to service, community involvement, and leadership. Congratulations to this year's students, Kevin Cheng and Catherine Pastuovic.

Kevin Cheng immersed himself into many opportunities that Aptakisic Junior High has to offer including the science fair, National Junior Honor Society, Scholastic Bowl, Student Newspaper Club, Art Club, Yearbook Club, and as stage crew/student director in the school play. Kevin also taps into his leadership skills by serving in student council. He has a 4.0 grade point average and is a member of the AJHS Orchestra and Sforzando Strings groups and participated in the Solo/Ensemble Contest.

Catherine Pastuovic not only strives for excellence with a 4.0 grade point average, but also takes a leadership role through her participation in the PALS program (Peers Achieving and Leading to Success) and as an after school peer tutor for other students. In addition, she participated in cross country, girls volleyball, and chorus, as well asa competitor in the solo/ensemble contest. She is a member of the National Junior Honor Society and through these experiences, she works to better the AJHS community of learners.

Douglas Parks Award
Renee Jhu is the recipient of the 2011 PTO Douglas Parks Award. She is a diligent, hard worker with a 4.0 grade point average and is a member of National Junior Honor Society. Renee participated in girls volleyball and shares a love for art through the Art Club. Most important, she is polite and courteous in all interactions with students, teachers, and staff. She reaches out to other students as an after school peer tutor and through the PALS program. AJHS is fortunate to have such an outstanding student who models our District 102 Universal Values of Integrity in such caring, conscientious ways. Congratulations Renee!

Excellence In Character Award
Jacob Victor is a hard-working student who displays outstanding character, assumes a leadership role, and treats others respectfully in all interactions. He was nominated and chosen by his teachers to lay the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Solder during the recent eighth grade trip to Washington, D.C. He has participated in student council and the Aptakisic Business Club, representing AJHS as a model "ambassador" of collegiality and leadership. He has reached out to the community through volunteering to participate in the evening Future Planning sessions for Aptakisic-Tripp School District 102. Congratulations, Jacob!
