"It takes all sorts to make a world." This anonymous quote served as this year's catch phrase for the fourth annual Mix It Up Week at Aptakisic Junior High School. Mix It Up Week is devoted to the celebration of diversity, as well as education and discussion surrounding the issues of tolerance, stereotyping, discrimination, and bullying.
Friday was career day with motivational speaker Mawi Asgedom presenting during the opening event. Mawi encouraged students to "accept yourself and love who you are because you are unique and different from anyone else." He challenged students to seize opportunities and make themselves better. Prior to his talk, 7th & 8th graders read his book Of Beetles and Angels: A Boy's Remarkable Journey from a Refugee Camp to Harvard.
